Melkkos is a typical South African dessert, it is also a staple meal for some. It is rich and hot, best enjoyed on a cold winter's night as a dessert or light meal.
Serves 4
* 310 ml (175 g) Snowflake cake flour
* 5 ml salt
* 15 ml butter
* 2 litres milk
* 1 ml ground nutmeg
* cinnamon sugar for sprinkling
* orange peel - optional
Sift flour and salt together and rub in butter with fingertips.
Heat milk in a large, heavy-based saucepan. Add dry ingredients to milk, stirring continuously. Lumps will form, but keep stirring well.
Cover with lid and simmer for 5 – 8 minutes, until cooked. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar and serve warm.
